If anything, Christmas, or more generally speaking, the winter holidays are all about giving. It’s not a religious thing, rather basic, human tradition that, at this time of the year, we all tend to turn towards each other. While under “normal” circumstances, this would mean family, people who are left without their families for whatever reason (orphans, homeless or elderly people) are especially needy for human company. Volunteering opportunities in some cases can mean as little as providing your company, a couple of words or a human touch, or donating your time for those who are in the need.

A few days before Christmas we collected a couple of volunteer opportunities for the holidays.

Volunteer for Christmas with the Red Cross

The American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana said on Monday (Dec 21) that volunteers are needed at its shelters, “possibly through the weekend.”

Those who can volunteer are asked to call 484-9336 for more information and to sign up. On Sunday night, Red Cross shelters housed more than 300 people, and the organization said that its shelters will remain open until services are no longer needed by residents. The American Red Cross also accepts donations for its Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Donate blood for Christmas
Organizations, such as the Miller Keystone Blood Center as you to donate blood for Christmas. According to them, while 60% of the population is eligible to donate blood, only some 5% of people will actually do so. You can book an appointment or show up at one of the following dates. Also, you can search for local opportunities or contact the American Red Cross.

Volunteer wrapping donated Christmas presents
Christmas is around the corner, and a whole array of charity organizations have collected Christmas presents for children (and possibly for adults) in the need. You can help them wrapping those Christmas presents or transporting them by donating your time or your driving skills.

Do you know of other volunteer opportunities for this Christmas? Please let us (and our readers) know among the comments.
